The Dancer and the spiral square

Dancing is all about silent conversation and the art of understanding your partner’s space, direction and feeling. When I see two people dancing, I can tell if they are in sync; when the movement becomes as one unit.

In this painting, I tried to convey the dancer’s relation and feeling with line, shape, texture, movement, color, and tone. The simple delicate flowing of the line and the dramatic contrast in tone and color between the light vibration of the pink and the dark, muted gray, is all part of this painting composition. The rough, smooth, and uneven texture of the pink line creating the optical illusion of the dancers’ movement. I used organic brush strokes that depict the freedom of the dancer’s movement. The circular shape for the head, elongated shape for the hand and body parts swirling in the space creates the intimate feeling of the dancer.

The spiral in the two squares represents the swirling movement of the dancer that is radiating out and drawing in simultaneously, infinitely and eternally creating beautiful energy within the dance floor.
